Senior High School (SHS) Coordinator of one of the piloting schools of SHS, Gina Obierna, went over the benefits of having Senior High School in schools.

 

In an interview at TV Program ‘Good Morning Kuya’, Mrs. Gina Obierna explained the importance and need of starting Senior High School in schools in the Philippines.

 

She said that by 2016, schools would have SHS in the education curriculum. She added that it’s a good addition to schools.

 

“They (students) get the chance to choose what they want,” Mrs. Obierna said.

 

This is one of the benefits, Mrs. Obierna gave. Incoming students of SHS will have the ability to choose their track: Academic Track, Technology Vocation (TechVoc), Arts and Design, and Sports. This is also where she mentioned the specialization students can pick.

 

The curriculum for the Senior High tracks include Core Subjects, Track Subjects, and Applied Subjects.

 

Mrs. Obierna also explained that after graduating from SHS, students could have the option of entrepreneurship, employment, or further or continuation of education in College.

 

“Maiiwasan ang pag-shi-shift ng course sa college… maiiwasan rin ang mga dropouts,” SHS coordinator, Mrs. Obierna pointed out.

 

She explained that this is because the students were given more time to really know what they want to become in life by the time they will go to college.

 

Mrs. Obierna said that students were given a much clearer view of what they want and teachers will intensify career guidance.
